5 Jan 2012The design of the new ProBook became even more concise: simple forms, straight lines and rounded corners. Of course, each person is different emotions 6560b: some say he looks like a MacBook Pro, others say that it is very thick. The last statement is partly true – at least the last model is also not particularly elegant, but it was more subtle. Of course, massive operating unit has a number of of benefits, but they mostly relate to part of the heat, rather than convenience.

The mechanical component case is worthy of respect. Matte aluminum lid not only looks very realistic, but also has some margin of safety, and magnesium alloy chassis provides the necessary degree of protection. In practice, this means that the main unit does not “walk” and does not bend. The cover, of course, the stiffness can not be compared with a multilayer structure EliteBook, but still better than the ProBook s-series.
Rejecting the hatches on the bottom of the set, HP has adopted a mechanism to access the components of its multimedia series (remember dv6-6051er). All components are replaceable and require maintenance, are now located under a single cover which is mounted without any screws. I must say that this system is implemented ProBook order of magnitude better than the infamous Pavilion. The cover easily otschelkivaetsya shift lock, and also easy to put back. The flat bottom of the notebook is completely devoid of labels – they are all located under the battery.
Now go over to the functional bottom of the laptop. First, immediately catch the eye drainage holes to drain water from the keyboard. By the way, the new keyboard, in theory, bad pass water, which will merge it even before penetration.
Second, disappointment awaits those who want to replace your old ProBook. HP has decided that they have not updated your accessories and make a new connector for a docking station. The new connector was a bit already and completely incompatible with previous versions of the docking.
The battery is securely fixed and not loose. At the five rubber feet notebook is very confident, and will not slide on the table. As the basic unit rather massive notebook keeps the balance even under the maximum cap tilted (max. angle of 180 degrees).
Built-in speakers located on the front face, have a high volume and fairly good mids and highs. Even without a subwoofer, the sound seems to surround and deep. Built-in webcam is equipped with two microphones for stereo recording voice – the quality of the “electronic eye” is very good. Even at the maximum resolution 1280 x 720 picture does not lag behind reality, and turns the head is not lubricated.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Let’s start with the keyboard: it has changed into a purely chicklet-decision and has not already accustomed to the seventh row of keys. In fact, it is not so uncomfortable as a new block arrows, borrowed from the netbook HP. Such size and location of vertical arrows is very difficult to get used to (like the keys on the navigation page for ThinkPad). The keyboard is secured and only a little squeezed in the upper right corner. Otherwise, the location of buttons and mechanics at the level of HP. The buttons are not klatsayut and softly rustling, and their size (10 x 10 mm) and distance mezhknopochnoe allow you to print quickly and without errors.
As for the touchpad, there is HP showed some gigantomania. The touchpad is very large – 110 x 55 mm (without buttons), which makes it very cleverly managed pointer. Sensitive millimeter panel is recessed into the palmrest, touchpad border so perfectly felt. Two large rubber buttons are pressed gently and quietly – is a hallmark of business notebooks HP.
Disabling touchpad at once provided for his panel – you can double-click on the small circles in the top left of the touchpad.
PORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS
Than one hundred percent can be proud of HP ProBook 6560b, DAK is a set of ports and communications. He has everything that can be useful even the most demanding user. Let’s start with a story about the interfaces.
It is necessary to warn that the HP ProBook 6560b does not have any USB 3.0. But ordinary USB 2.0 had as many as 5 (one shared with e-SATA). Connectors are located conveniently enough facets: three on the left (2 + 1) and two on the right.
Next, a very important point is that this laptop has a serial port (COM-port). This makes it interesting for a particular use, such as programmers, sensors in the production or management systems mechanisms.
Output to external displays via analog VGA and digital Display Port (buying the adapter will connect a DVI or HDMI).
Well, after all, in general, a standard: there are two 3.5 mm jacks for headphones and external microphone, one for cable attachment security, a 4-pin 1394, and even forgotten by all ExpressCard 54 mm.
Built-in memory card reader, unfortunately, only supports SD / MMC and placed in the rear left side of the unit. It’s not that good, but the front of the break conciseness designers did not.
In general, all the connectors are easy enough: those that are not often used (COM, RJ-11 and DP) – huddled at the back side. Others are easily accessible to the user and do not cause any complaints.
As part of the communications in all ProBook 6560b is also excellent – it has everything that can be useful to modern man. List, perhaps the start in order of importance:
- Built-in WLAN-adapter Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n (half-size)
- Built-in WWAN-adapter HP hs2340 HSPA + (Ericsson). LG658EA – the only configuration with built-in 3G-modem).
- Built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
- Built-in 56k modem
By the way, to work with utilities, the utility is installed in a laptop Connection Manager. It allows you to manage networks and can send SMS.

Antenna stretched to cover, can make quite sure the signal even in the basement, where mobile phones are losing the network.
DISPLAY
Knowing that to us “going” laptop with high resolution, we immediately prepared calibrator. If you remember, we got ProBook 6540b also display HD +, and had excellent quality. But ProBook 6550b not met our expectations – it was installed HD-normal matrix with low contrast.
With Aida, we were able to identify the manufacturer of the matrix – AU Optronics (model B156RW01 V1). Of course, the display is matte and has a current ratio of 16: 9. The results of measurements of the brightness and contrast (center) introduced in the following table:

As can be seen at 100% brightness, uniformity of illumination rather good. If, however, reduce the brightness of the IRE to 50%, the difference from the center up to 28%. Light leakage at the edges of the display are perfectly visible when displaying blacks, and are supported by data from the calibrator.
On the chart you can see the final results of the comparison-gamut display HP ProBook 6560b with minimum acceptable color space, sRGB and much wider AdobeRGB. As can be seen, the matrix is almost covered space sRGB, which is not bad for a professional job with photos.
Since this model ProBook has a light sensor, brightness is needed to regulate themselves. However, even manually, you can control this parameter very accurately, because it is regulated in 18 steps. Thus it is possible to establish a comfortable level of illumination for virtually any situation. The following table you can see the data on the ratio of the brightness of white, black and contrast plots for different values of the brightness of the matrix.
We were somewhat disappointed with the usual angles of the matrix. Indeed, among the models 6560b is a technology-WVA (Wide-View-Angle). Part number of the model – LG655EA.
As a result, we are quite good and very high contrast display, which looks black as black. First, such a display is important to work with graphics and photos, however, we recommend first calibrate the display – the factory setting of color in the cold gone away. If you are bringing low requirements to the display, you should look at other configurations having the usual displays and lower cost.
