7 Feb 2011Kodak ESP 9250 is an office-oriented device. It is rare in the sense that a fax modem, together with a 30-sheet automatic document feeder means you messages with multiple pages to send to places where the Internet is still coming. It is made of silver-gray plastic instead of trendy black, but the formal-looking result is quite clever. Build quality is high, too, except the direction of the external adapter, which wobbles a bit in the socket. We want to prevent the press from the printer back against a wall for this reason, although the excellent duplexer should stop coming to any harm.
Apart from the fax modem and ADF, the MFP is well specified with photo printing features such as card slots and a color display, although only 6.1 cm, this is one of the smallest here. Kodak installer offers to download the latest software and firmware from the Internet. It is a talkative program, providing information on everything to download and install all the time while running a video to remind you how great the MFP you just bought.

Kodak uses a different arrangement of inks to other manufacturers. A big black pigment ink tank with a single color tank with black, cyan, magenta and yellow ink – also pigmented. Unlike dye-based inks in most inkjets, the pigment particles in Kodak color ink can not pass through the protective top layer of paper that normally would result in print without a uniform glossy finish. To address this, there is room in the fifth color cartridge that contains a clear gloss coating. The head of pigment inks is that they are more colors on plain paper, and are much more resistant to fading. Indeed, research shows Willhelm Kodak prints will last 259 years.
It is impressive, but the quality of the pictures is not. While our two 10x8in color photos looked good, our black and white image had a definite magenta cast and lacked detail in dark areas. Things were not much better on our postcard size prints, despite sharp detail in the midtones, had a convincing matte colors and a glossy finish that magenta note to reflections taught. Also, the ESP 9250 not recognize the photos on the SD card that we use for testing, despite nearly every other recent MFP that no such problem.
While black text looked dark and very bright, we were surprised that Kodak’s color pigment ink no longer an impression on plain paper. The outline color of the text remained sharp and detailed images was high, but the color itself was boring and looked somewhat washed out.

We were happier with the results of the scanner, which was fairly quickly even at high resolutions and produced strong results oriented. Detail was well preserved in very bright areas, with only the two darkest shades on our Q-60 target is difficult to distinguish. Color fidelity was not his strong point, but while images with richer colors than the original just ended, the effect was subtle and ruinous.
With underwhelming photos, the Kodak balance of features and extremely low operating costs suggest that the best is still in office. Apart from color photocopies imperfect, it does everything a small business needs.
