Formidably equipped all-in-One (AIO) desktops like the recently reviewed Sony VAIO L-Series and Gateway One ZX6810-01 much of the headlights have been stolen from affordable AIOs. However, today’s budget models are seeing a shift to seriousness, something that is not about the wave of condensed nuclear-powered, that the market in 2009 could say are flooded. The HP Pavilion MS225 AIO packs published a meaty punch than most any budget AIO at this time last year. But it is in a crowded pool at the price level of competing, and while there is a decent enough PC to use for basic research, better equipped and do not cost much more faster models.

The MS225 features the same minimalist design that his predecessor, the HP Pavilion had MS214. The bezel is nice shiny black plastic, but it is without any stylish curves or angles. A built-in speaker sits horizontally at the bottom of the screen, while a built-in lie duo camera and microphone on the bezel of the tip. The power switch is located on the lower right part of the front panel and is accompanied by a light teal, the nests directly on the left side. The display of the right live picture control keys and the optical drive tray opening, while the left side are two USB 2.0 ports, a six-format flash card reader and headphone and microphone jacks. We would prefer us to dedicated volume control brightness, but for some reason, relatively few all-in-one PCs get this detail right. The PC’s back houses four additional USB 2.0 ports, a connector for the external power supply, an Ethernet jack and a line-out jack. Integrated Wi-Fi (802.11n variety) will be able to surf the web, the web on your home network sans Ethernet cable.

Unfortunately, the input devices that HP bundles are wired to the MS225. We would not mind these are as much a desktop tower design, but all the AIOs to conserve space and make your workspace strictly aesthetic, and wired keyboards and mice run counter to these goals. The MS225 is also weighed down by an external power supply, but at least that is hidden behind the desk or on the floor.

The keyboard and mouse are both black and fit the aesthetic design of the system, but they are usually boring. The keyboard is missing media file or browser control buttons, save for the dedicated buttons for raising, lowering, and muting the volume. The system swooping metal stand is not particularly flashy, but it fit the silver accents on the keyboard. The stand you can adjust the display vertically by 45 degrees in either direction, and the body is light, it’s just left and right, and pivot.

The integrated speakers are passable for everyday use, but they will not have a room with sound. If you’re serious about the sound of your music, then you are investing in decent speakers or resign yourself through headphones. Although, would the addition of AIO speaker wired minimalism at play here in March

While a quick glance at the MS225′s data is immediately clear that this PC is not computing power, it has received some moderate component upgrades over its predecessor, the MS214. They have some similarities. Both sport a 320GB hard drive, a DVD RW drive and a 18.5-inch display, and both systems use an integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip as the processor. But the differences between the two visually identical machines make it clear that the newer machine is a bit more robust. The MS225 is equipped with an AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core-250U CPU clocked at 1.6 GB, 4 GB DDR2-RAM support provided by the. The MS214 is having a weaker, last-generation 1.5 GHz AMD Athlon X2 3250E Dual-core CPU and half the RAM. While the differences appear in the RAM and CPU do not like big, say the two PCs, the productivity test results differently.

In our first set of tests, the MS225 proved himself a capable basis for light productivity tasks and the least demanding games. In our CPU load Windows Media Encoder test, the MS225 has Encoder 9 minutes and 29 seconds on our standard video clip, while the MS214 was 12:47. In our iTunes test, where we convert 11 standard MP3 files to AAC format, the MS225 has completed 6 minutes and 6 seconds until the conversion, the MS214 has 07.09. And in our Cinebench 10 test, a different processor-centric training landed the MS225 has a value of 3475, while the MS214, it was only 2394. Apparently, the MS225 a good bit more processing muscle than his older siblings.

The problem is that non-HP competition. Spending $ 70 more to get the entry-level A600 Lenovo IdeaCentre you a more attractive business. For $ 699, you get a superior CPU (Intel Pentium T4300 processor clocked at 2 GHz) and a great 21.5-inch display. Also, the IdeaCentre A600 of the native screen resolution far superior to the MS225′s (1920 x 1080, 1366 x 768 pixels to against). You only get 3GB of RAM, but it is the faster DDR3 race against the Dual DDR2, that the dispensers MS225 sticks. And for our eyes is the IdeaCentre A600 design is more attractive than the MS225.

The MS225 is a slightly better gaming machine than the MS214, but neither you playable frame rates in modern games. The MS225 average of 15 frames per second (fps) in our DirectX 9 Company of Heroes test, we ran at a resolution of 1,024 x 768. Since this number is an average, sometimes dipped the frame rate close to or below 10fps, approximated at which point the game is a slide show. The MS225 did not do much better in our DirectX 10 version of the test, either, squeak, a paltry 18fps.

Turn all the graphical eye candy way down can give you a playable frame rate (25fps is the absolute minimum, in our opinion), but if you are looking for a budget gaming rig, you can get much better. For example, if you can live without the AIO design and already has a respectable LCD monitor that CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 1000 is a much better choice. Of course, that a tower PC, it is a different animal, but good gaming performance is not cheap. On the other hand, the MS225 good enough to casual titles like Peggle or The Sims handle. And if you reside on a World of Warcraft gamers are addicted to happen, one can breathe again, because this machine should provide more than satisfied with the nightly raider in your life.

To our surprise, deals with the MS225 full-screen video playback on Hulu.com without hiccups, which is a problem in the past for many underpowered budget all-in-one and netbooks. We have found no delays or interruptions in a 21-minute episode of the Simpsons, and simultaneously open three browser windows showed only a minimal stuttering.

The HP Pavilion MS225 will serve as a competent low-end PC family for as long as no serious player or video/audio editors live under your roof. While the MS225 is a decent choice for a first (or second), a traditional tower PC, you are making more upgrade potential, if your needs grow through web browser, office projects and photo editing. If your needs are basic, and both budget and space are tight, the MS225 should serve you well. Nevertheless, if that’s your scenario, consider the aforementioned Lenovo ThinkCentre A600, a larger (and 1080p-capable) and a screen beefier CPU for about $ 100 more packages stretching. Although expensive it will be a better value for most people.
