Touch screens are a pretty big deal in the all-in-one desktop category, and if we come across models such as the HP All-in-One 200, that such a screen is missing, we tend to get a little antsy. Apple’s offering has proven that you do not need a touch-display experience on our map of the Best Big Screen feature All-in-one PCs (screen sizes above 20 inches). But most models in the category these days offer multi-touch, and you can not help but just want to reach and touch a screen of this attractive.

Despite the lack of touch functionality, the 21-inch HP All-in-One 200 ($ 780, as of October 2010) makes a convincing package. Armed with a 2.7 GHz Pentium E5400 Processor, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, and Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), the All-in-One 200 points earned from 104 on our WorldBench 6 test suite.

By comparison, Sony’s Vaio L117FX/B and Gateway One ZX6810-01 offered to 105 points. While these all pale in comparison with Apple’s Core i7-powered, 27-inch behemoth (it has 128), finds the all-in-One 200, even in very good company. For storage, the HP supplied a 500 GB hard drive – a generous amount, but the rest of the class has moved up to 1 TB range.

While the general performance was saddled on a par with the category leaders, the all-in-One with built-in instead of discrete graphics, and as a result was unable to deliver playable frame rates in our Unreal Tournament 3 benchmark, at any resolution and quality setting .

The all-in-One 200 offers to complement a fairly standard interface connections. A pair of USB ports and a multi-format card readers are on the left side of the chassis, with five more USB ports on the back. On the right side of the machine, the DVD burner and the brightness – a more practical addition.

Missing are advanced compounds such as eSATA or FireWire, and extras such as an HDMI port would have been nice. The machine does offer 7.1-channel surround sound that was easily slip it in your home theater setup. The sound quality of built-in speaker bar is not bad. While the sound could not fill an entire room, it is suitable for smaller rooms. If you are looking for a proper bass, you’ll still want to pick up a serious set of speakers, but at this point in the audio quality is good enough.

The most important characteristic of an all-in-one PC is, of course, their display and HP offers a strong contender, with a native resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels, making it perfect for 1080p high-definition content. Video playback was smooth, without noticeable motion blur on action-oriented examination content.

The colors on the screen with LED backlighting is nice and details are fairly well preserved, without blurring or distortion, as we are placed in a test pattern of white flowers against a white background, for example him. The screen remains visible from all but the most extreme angles, no glare screen visible under standard fluorescent lamps.

As far as extras go, the all-in-One 200 has no real surprises. The included mouse is comfortable, but simple. The keyboard is standard HP board and comfortable enough to type on. It offers media playback controls via a function key, and dedicated volume buttons. Both are wireless peripherals, which is always in the space-conscious estimated all-in-one category.

The all-in-One 200 is webcam is less impressive, and probably will not for users that sufficient standards on YouTube. During our tests, the microphone was pretty much background noise and the video itself – even with the best quality – was pretty grainy.

There is much to give: an attractive, space-saving housing, strong performance and a good 21-inch display. It may lack some of the features of comparable 23 – and 24-inch models, but extras such as a 1 TB hard drive and a Blu-ray player would probably pushed this machine and have it from its sub-$ 1000 price range. It looks like if you sold yet on Windows 7 touch functionality and want a fairly large screen (without paying a bundle for Apple’s offerings), HP all-in-One 200 is a great value.
